“that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge” (Ephesians 3:16-19).
Knowledge is essential to human life. Having a mind which can analyze, imagine, ponder, reason, comprehend, meditate, and learn is the most distinctive advantage humans have over all of God’s other creatures. The taproot of genuine knowledge is the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 1:7), and the highest, most glorious branch of human education is an ever-increasing knowledge of the love of Christ.
Each feature of Christ’s love—its width, length, height, and depth—is immeasurable. Therefore, you need never fear the possibility of having mastered all there is to learn of it.
Failing to see this knowledge as a genuine spiritual need—one to be unquenchably hungering and thirsting for—is most tragic and dangerous. Pursuing greater knowledge of Christ’s love is a worthy goal for every lifelong learner.
