Genuine Spiritual Needs–Part Four

“that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height” (Ephesians 3:16-18).

Comprehending the incomprehensible is impossible, but a continual attempt to do so is one of your genuine spiritual needs.

Such effort is a potent catalyst for a lifetime of diligent spiritual growth, and a lifetime of diligent spiritual growth will ensure that you are neither barren nor unfruitful in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. It will also make your calling and election sure. This will ensure an abundantly supplied entrance into the everlasting kingdom for you (2 Peter 1:5-11).

Because we serve the One “who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20), our calling to know Him (John 17:3) and His incomprehensible love (Ephesians 3:18) is never fully completed during our earthly sojourn. This is good for us because it demands the best and most of us.

So, accept Paul’s challenge to live a life committed to being rooted and grounded in love. Experience fully the extreme challenge it makes upon your heart’s width and length and depth and height. Use this experience to grow in your comprehension of the incomprehensible love of God.

This epic spiritual challenge is precisely what your mind, heart, soul, and spirit need most. It is one of your genuine spiritual needs.
