Now and Later

“looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2).

How you live today directly impacts your future forever. Though this life is temporal, its decisions and actions are not.

When the book of Hebrews was written, Jesus’ horrific death had been a historical fact for about thirty years. For six hours at Golgotha Jesus endured the cross. This six-hour event in history is in the past.

Forty days after this travesty of justice, Jesus ascended to heaven and was given everlasting dominion, inexpressible glory, and an indestructible kingdom (Daniel 7:14). He sat down at the right hand of the throne of God, and He is still seated there today. He will remain at that precise location–making intercession for His people (Hebrews 7:25)–until He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, putting an end to all rule and all authority and power (1 Corinthians 15:24).

Nearly two thousand years ago, Jesus voluntarily laid down His life for His sheep (John 10:11, 17-18). The impact of that decision to be obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross is ongoing to this very hour.

Like Jesus, how you live today directly impacts your future forever.
