“For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin” (Hebrews 12:3-4).
Satan can sound pretty convincing when striving to get us to throw a self-pity party.
It is true that a life of faith is not easy. Enduring faith is an epic challenge. So, beware when Satan hisses: “You poor thing, you deserve a break today.”
To resist the soothing, smooth, and flattering lies of self-pity, ask these two penetrating questions:
How comparable is my life of faith to the One who endured intense hostility from sinners against Himself?
Does the path I am currently walking on leave a trail of blood (like Jesus’ path from Pilate’s court to Calvary)?
Self-pity is a powerful tool of Satan. Protecting yourself from it is never easy, but it is essential, especially when living by faith is most difficult.
