He Who is Able

The only logical reason any Christian ought to believe Jehovah can ultimately accomplish His goal of filling you with all the fullness of God (Ephesians 3:19) is because He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). The fundamental truth of the gospel is its reverberating declaration and demonstration that Christ makes the impossible possible (see Matthew 19:25-26).

While it is true God never has and never will do something that is illogical or self-contradictory (like make a four-sided triangle or a married bachelor), this does not mean He cannot do something which is humanly impossible. Without His extraordinary ability to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think we have no hope…

But God is able to eternally purpose one gospel with one Lord, one hope, and one baptism which can save all sinners, regardless of their biological ancestry (Romans 1:16).

But God is able to resurrect His Son from the dead and seat Him at His right hand in the heavenly places as the King of kings and Lord of lords, far above all principalities and powers and might and dominion and every name that is named (Ephesians 1:20-21).

But God is able to devise and implement a plan of salvation in which He is both just and the justifier of those who live by faith in Christ (Romans 3:26).

But God is able to make new creatures out of condemned spiritual criminals (2 Corinthians 5:17).

But God is able to reveal the inspired Scriptures which will equip every one of His children for complete spiritual victory (2 Timothy 3:15-17).

But God is able to providentially work all things together for good to those who love Him and are the called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

But God is able to transform our lowly bodies into conformity with Christ’s glorious, resurrected body (Philippians 3:21).

“Tis the grandest theme through the ages rung; tis the grandest theme for a mortal tongue; tis the grandest theme that the world e’er sung: Our God is able…!”
