Two Invitations

Proverbs 9 contains two distinct invitations.  Both are open invitations to whoever wants to accept (vv. 4, 16).  The hostess of each invitation offers its recipient a pleasurable experience.

Wisdom—whose invitation begins the chapter (vv. 1-6)—offers what belongs to her.  Folly—whose invitation concludes the chapter (vv. 13-18)—offers what is stolen.

If accepted, wisdom’s invitation will result in the fear of the Lord, knowledge of the Holy One, and understanding (v. 10).  If accepted, folly’s invitation will result in death and Sheol (v. 18).

You have received both invitations.  You must accept one.

     Which one have you accepted?
