Stability

“A man is not established by wickedness, but the root of the righteous cannot be moved…The wicked are overthrown and are no more, but the house of the righteous will stand” (Proverbs 12: 3, 7).

Nine centuries before Jesus concluded the sermon on the mount with His memorable analogy of builders who choose to construct their house on rock and sand (Mat. 7:24-27), Solomon’s proverbs had repeatedly hammered out the same truths. There is no stability in life for those who foolishly choose wickedness and there is immovable stability for those who wisely choose righteousness.

The wicked have no stability because they plant and water the seeds of their own destruction. Wickedness has no way of shielding its practitioner from the wrath of God which impartially targets all human ungodliness and unrighteousness (Rom. 1:18, 2:11). The eternal condemnation of all the ungodly and unrighteous was set when Jehovah created the eternal fire of Gehenna for the devil and his angels (Mat. 25:41). There are no peace and stability for the wicked in this life and no escaping the everlasting fires in the life to come.

However, the righteous have great stability. Their root cannot be moved; therefore, their house will withstand the rains, winds, and floods of this life. Though the winds of false doctrine blow fiercely (Eph. 4:14), their house will stand.

The righteous have stability. The wicked do not.
