“The Lord is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the righteous” (Proverbs 15:29).
The God of heaven is not far from each one of us (Acts 17:27) because His fingerprints cover everything found in the universe He created (Acts 17:24). However, there are certain categories of people He is far from and near to.
He is far from being in fellowship and friendship with the wicked. He abominates their dishonest scales (Prov. 11:1), their perverse hearts (Prov. 11:20), their lying lips (Prov. 12:22), their sacrifices (Prov. 15:8), their way of life (Prov. 15:9), their thoughts (Prov. 15:26), their pride (Prov. 16:5), and their prayers (Prov. 28:9).
His grace is extended to the humble who submit to Him and resist the devil (James 4:6-7). He draws near to those who draw near to Him by cleansing their hands and purifying their hearts (James 4:8). His friendship and fellowship are extended to those who lament, mourn, and weep over their sin (James 4:9). He hears the sincere prayers of those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.
