Sarah’s Faith

By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised” (Hebrews 11:11).

Because of the Bible’s impartial, factual recording of historical events, it contains both the best and worst of people. Sarah is one such example.

The inspired penman Moses did not hide her less-than-stellar moments. She did persuade Abram to take her handmaiden Hagar to be a surrogate mother for her (Genesis 16:2-4). Almost fifteen years later, laughter was her initial response to the angel’s message that she would conceive of her own son (Genesis 18:11-15).

To her credit, Sarah apparently spent some time rethinking her initial reaction to the news of her future pregnancy. Though her first reaction was laughter, her enduring response was faith.

Loving God with all your mind implies a willingness to reconsider your preliminary reactions to and reflect upon God’s mind-boggling promises in light of His integrity and faithfulness.

To her everlasting credit, Sarah did.
