The “So Great Salvation”–Part One

“…how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation..?” (Hebrews 2:3).

It is a haunting question, an epic interrogative which deserves sober, careful consideration.

The salvation of humans from the guilt, shame, shackles, and eternal death of sin which is offered freely in the gospel merits nothing less. It rightfully warrants this because of the vast, superlative magnitude of its greatness.

It is the “so great salvation” because of:

  • The One who purchased it. The unique, only-begotten Son of God was sacrificed as God’s lamb of atonement—without blemish and without spot—to redeem you. His precious, imperishable blood completely appeased God’s holy wrath for your sin, satisfying His just punishment of your ungodliness and unrighteousness. No greater purchaser or purchase price has ever been.

  • The disaster from which it rescues. No greater loss can be sustained than the loss of your soul. All the wealth in the world is inferior to its value. Being rescued from the everlasting punishment of hell has no equal or rival. No greater disaster can ever befall you.

  • The eternal blessing it provides. No greater gain can be enjoyed than the salvation of your soul in heaven. No grander, more beautiful, pristine, and glorious city exists. No earthly paradise is comparable. Living eternally in the presence of God with the redeemed has no equal or rival. No greater blessing exists than an eternal abode in heaven.
