Reasons for Joy in Trials–Part Three

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways” (James 1:2-8).

Wisdom is learning how to look at life from God’s omniscient, eternal, and holy perspective. No one is born with this spiritual common sense. It must be pursued via the study of God’s word and prayer.

Implicit in James’ words above is the truth that one of the blessings which trials have is to drive you to your knees with a passionate desire for wisdom and comfort from the God of heaven.

Human wisdom says trials are harsh and senseless burdens, impenetrable barriers to joy and real success. Divine wisdom says trials are a catalyst to spiritual growth and genuine discernment. These contradictory perspectives cannot both be right.

Do you look at life from God’s perspective?
