Reconciliation

For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation” (Romans 5:10-11).

Through absolutely no fault of His own, God has been alienated from His most beloved creation, humanity. Because of our iniquities and sins have created a spiritual rift, we are now enemies. Worse yet, humanity has no way of adequately conceiving or implementing a cessation of hostilities. We alone have created this mess but are utterly powerless to remedy it.

In due time, Christ died for us, the ungodly. The blood He shed in His gruesome death propitiated God’s holy wrath; the penalty of our sinful guilt was paid in full. Now the just God can justify sinners by Christ’s blood, saving them from His righteous wrath.

Through Christ’s death, a genuine path of reconciliation now exists. Penitent, obedient sinners can change from estranged enemies to beloved sons. No one comes to the Father except through the Son (John 14:6), but all can come to the Father through the Son. Reconciled to God by His Son’s death and saved by His life, we ought to rejoice passionately in God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

From enmity to fellowship, from hostility to praise, we have now received the reconciliation through Christ and His glorious gospel.

What a change reconciliation brings!
