“To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 3:8-9).
Even though God’s marvelous mystery has now been made known to the sons of men because it was revealed by the Spirit to Christ’s holy apostles and prophets (Ephesians 3:5), and even though there can be universal knowledge and understanding of it which is equal to that of any apostle (Ephesians 3:4), it still has elements which are impossible for the finite human mind to fully comprehend.
In the effective working of God’s power which comes when the gospel is preached, there are “the unsearchable riches of Christ”. Because this marvelous mystery was eternally purposed (Ephesians 3:11), a finite human mind cannot trace back and discover that moment in eternity past in which God’s love and grace decided to place all spiritual blessings in Christ (Ephesians 1:3). The human mind is too frail and finite for such an endeavor.
Unlike every other religion outside the Bible, New Testament Christianity did not originate in the mind of man. Unlike Diana and every other false god and religion, New Testament Christianity is not something shaped and contrived by man’s devising. Rather, it is the unveiling of the spiritual riches of Christ which were eternally purposed and cannot be traced back by human effort to their origins.
In addition, knowledge of the precise content of God’s marvelous mystery was hidden from the beginning of human history. Neither man nor angel knew its entire contents until Jehovah by revelation made this mystery known.
What a marvel is God’s MARVELous mystery!
