“Have I not written to you excellent things, of counsels and knowledge, that I may make you know the certainty of the words of truth, that you may answer words of truth to those who send to you?” (Proverbs 22:20-21).
Because the Holy Spirit inspired holy men and guided them into all truth, the Holy Scriptures are true. Jesus Himself affirmed God’s word to be truth (John 17:17). They are pristinely holy.
A truly wise man trusts in the Lord (Prov. 22:19). He is wise because he listens, applies, and retains truth (Prov. 22:17-18; see yesterday’s post). He knows the truth, and because his wisdom comes from God’s word, he knows with certainty that he knows the truth.
When any challenging question arises, the wise man knows that when he discerns the Bible’s answer to it, he knows the truth on that matter. He knows that he knows the truth.
The world offers a pseudo-wisdom which questions everything but rarely answers anything. It condemns certainty as being naïve and unenlightened.
God offers genuine wisdom. When you listen, apply, and retain God’s word, you know the truth. Of that you can be certain.
