“The fear of the Lord leads to life, and he who has it will abide in satisfaction; he will not be visited with evil” (Proverbs 19:23).
The sentiment of this proverb is echoed in Paul’s words to his son in the faith: “…godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come” (1 Tim. 4:8). In your youth, godliness (i.e. the fear of the Lord) is essential to living your life abundantly. Throughout the duration of your life on earth—from youth to old age—godliness (i.e. the fear of the Lord) is essential to the sweet fruits of joy, peace, and contentment (or spiritual satisfaction). When death comes, godliness (i.e. the fear of the Lord) is profitable in the life to come; it will be an impenetrable shield from the evil of eternal separation from God.
Regardless of where the sands of time are in the hourglass of your life, godliness (i.e. the fear of the Lord) is blessed.
