Lending to the Lord

“He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and He will pay back what he has given” (Proverbs 19:17).

One of the challenging aspects of benevolence is doing good as often as God expects us to. We are to do good unto all (Gal. 6:10). Because of personal laziness (Prov. 19:15), doing good to some people means you do not help them materially. “If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat” (2 Thes. 3:10). There are people who desire a handout.

Others, however, need a hand to help them up. Upon these we are to take pity. This is not money wasted. It is help given to the Lord. It is an investment in heavenly treasure. Be assured you will receive a substantial return on your investment. This is not a promise from the F.D.I.C.; it is a promise from G.O.D.
