“The heart of the prudent acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge” (Proverbs 18:15).
A person’s heart values his treasure. Whatever you esteem the highest and dearest (i.e., your treasure) is what your heart seeks the most earnestly, because “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Mat. 6:21). Prudence, wisdom, and discernment are not accidental components of your mind and character; they are a part of you to the same degree that you pursue and acquire the knowledge necessary for their presence in your mind.
When your heart’s priority is prudence, your ears are ever attentive for knowledge which will increase your storehouse of wisdom. Time and energy are not wasted on foolish and frivolous things. Too much is at stake.
The heart and ears of the wise have a keen thirst for and interest in knowledge, not trivial information. Knowledge which fuels prudence and wisdom is treasured. The most important knowledge is that which is able to make you wise unto salvation through faith in Christ Jesus (2 Tim. 3:15).
