“Righteous lips are the delight of kings, and they love him who speaks what is right” (Proverbs 16:13).
Like attracts like. A bee is irresistibly drawn to nectar. Hogs enjoy wallowing in muck and mire. It is innate.
A righteous person—from king to commoner—delights in righteous lips. The righteous are irresistibly drawn to people who are honest and truthful, even when their lips speak words which are painful to hear.
A king with a handful of counselors can easily have a roomful of Hamans—men with hidden, evil agendas because of personal pettiness (Esther 3:1-15). What a daunting challenge it must be for a king to discern accurately the best and wisest course of action when his advisors only tell him what fits their own personal agendas. How rare and refreshing it must be for someone who has been entrusted with much authority in civil government to have a confidante with righteous lips.
Since like attracts like, do you find the words of righteous lips to be delightful or detestable?
