What’s Stirring

“A wrathful man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger allays contention…Hatred stirs up strife…He who is of a proud heart stirs up strife…An angry man stirs up strife…” (Proverbs 15:18; 10:12; 28:25; 29:22).

The law of cause and effect is axiomatic in science. Certain effects in the physical realm have specific causes. In the spiritual world, certain effects are stirred up by specific causes. From the proverbs of Solomon, we learn hatred (10:12), pride (28:25), and anger/wrath (29:22; 15:18) are causes of strife.

If you want to obey Roman 12:18’s exhortation to live peaceably with all men, you will need to be loving, humble, and merciful. Having the meekness of spirit to be slow to anger is essential to resisting the efforts of those who ever seek to stir up strife.

Strife is an effect you do not want stirred up.
