“The evil will bow before the good and the wicked at the gates of the righteous” (Proverbs 14:19).
The war between good and evil began centuries ago, long before you were born. It will continue until Jesus—the Victor over sin, death, Hades, and Satan—permanently punishes every one of His foes (Rev. 20:10-15). Until that final, climactic day, the forces of evil and wickedness often appear to be irresistible and invincible.
Less than a decade after the apostle Paul wrote to those in Rome who were beloved of God, called to be saints (Rom. 1:7), the imperial city was awash in blood. It was the blood of Christians who were being killed all day long, treated like sheep taken to the slaughter (Rom. 8:36). By all earthly appearances, evil was triumphing exceedingly over good. “Yet in all these things,” Paul declared, “we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Rom. 8:37).
Solomon could not write from the same perspective of Paul (in Romans) or John (in Revelation), but he could assure those who would heed his words: The final outcome in war between good and evil will be of the triumph of good over evil. “The evil will bow before the good and the wicked at the gates of the righteous” (Proverbs 14:19).
