“For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls” (Hebrews 12:3).
Being like Jesus is not for wimps.
Though He possessed the authority to summon ten thousand angels to save Him from crucifixion, Jesus chose to endure the cross and the intense, harsh hostility of sinners.
Such spiritual grit and perseverance is not found in wimps. Calvary is historical proof of Jesus’ toughness. It is the supreme example of valor and obedience.
In the most succinct of terms, Hebrews 12:3 has one terse message with two components: “Don’t be a wimp”; instead, “Man up!”
When you compare yourself to the gold standard of Jesus’ tenacious, obedient faith, there is no justification for being a spiritual wimp. The heat of your spiritual battles will never reach the white-hot temperature His did. Therefore, don’t succumb to spiritual fatigue and discouragement.
Don’t be a wimp.
