“Let the lowly brother glory in his exaltation, but the rich in his humiliation, because as a flower of the field he will pass away. For no sooner has the sun risen with a burning heat than it withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beautiful appearance perishes. So, the rich man also will fade away in his pursuits” (James 1:9-11).
All Christians have financial trials. The apostle Paul had firsthand experience with both poverty and prosperity, hunger and satiation, abundance and destitution (Philippians 4:11-12).
Each extreme financial situation has its own trials. When poor, one is tempted to doubt God because he has so little. When prosperous, one is tempted to desert God because he has so much. Regardless of which financial exam you may be taking, the most important question on the test is: Will you trust God regardless of your circumstances?
Rejoicing during financial trials, maintaining confident trust in God, and being content with His present providence are three essential characteristics of a wise and blessed Christian.
