“For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so, all Israel will be saved, as it is written: ‘The Deliverer will come out of Zion, and He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; for this is My covenant with them, when I take away their sins’” (Romans 11:25-27).
No mystery ever penned by a human author compares with the one God eternally purposed and then etched into the tablet of human history.
Its climactic outcome baffled both Jehovah’s prophets and angels (1 Peter 1:10-12). Its ultimate fulfillment disappointed many a first century Jewish patriot (like Saul of Tarsus). Its incredible plot twist (“He is not here, but is risen”—Luke 24:6) was most unexpected by those who knew Him best.
And yet, it has been written.
Jehovah’s Deliverer did come out of Zion; He was sent from heaven. This Savior can separate the sinner from the guilt of his sins. His promised redemption and its guarantee are all written in the new covenant which He inaugurated with His own blood, shed for the remission of sins.
Ignorance of this great mystery—the salvation of humanity through obedience to Christ’s gospel—is inexcusable. By divine revelation to Christ’s holy apostles and prophets, this mystery has been made known and is to be proclaimed to every creature.
Blindness to this great mystery is equally inexcusable. Pretending it does not exist does not make it disappear nor will it make its demands vanish. It only puffs you up with foolish arrogance, making you wise in your own opinion, and lost forever when you die.
For you, the final chapter of God’s mystery (of eternal life in heaven or everlasting death in hell) is written by your hand.
