There is No Difference
“But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:21-23).
A major appeal of idolatry is its enthusiastic permission to customize your faith to your personal preferences. It eagerly encourages you to create your own deity should you dislike all the available options. You can create god in your image.
Many take the bait.
Throughout “Christendom” today there are multitudes who have taken the God of the Bible and molded an idol of their liking from Him. Inner desires which do not comply with the Scriptures are now attributed to the Holy Spirit and His “guidance”, thus giving a limitless psuedo-authority to sin. A false god “understands” your exceptionality and thus permissively allows any expression of ungodliness and unrighteousness you desire. Any Scriptural criticism of these golden calves which have been erroneously named “Jehovah” is most unwelcome and loudly labeled “unloving” hate speech.
Idolatry gladly permits you to exchange the God who made you in His image into a god made in your image. Yet, all of this is a mirage.
There is only one God; He is eternal, holy, immutable, and perfect. There is only one Savior for all sinners—Jesus (Matthew 1:21). There is only one gospel, because all sinners have the same horrific disease called sin.
There is no difference. You are not THAT special.
Customizing God and the gospel is not the pressing need of the hour. Obedience is.
