“My son, fear the Lord and the king; do not associate with those given to change; for their calamity will rise suddenly, and who knows the ruin those two can bring?” (Proverbs 24:21-22).
Respect for God, His authority and those to whom He has delegated authority in the church, society, and the home is essential to living wisely. The fear of the Lord is the cornerstone to any spiritual success (Prov. 1:7, 9:10). A deep and healthy respect for authority provides great stability to your life, especially when it is most challenging.
Living consistently by the righteous principles which grow out of the fertile soil of the fear of the Lord prevents the chaotic turmoil and volatility of those who are ever tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine. Those who do not respect God and His authority have no ballast to steady their lives when the rain descends, the floods come, and the violent winds blow. Therefore, their certain calamity will rise suddenly.
Associating with those who do not fear God and keep His commandments is foolish. When God’s sure promise of sudden calamity comes upon them, you do not want to be with them.
