Humanity’s Common Heritage

“The rich and the poor have this in common: the Lord is the maker of them all” (Proverbs 22:2).

Regardless of race, skin color, geographic location, political ideology, economic or social status, every human has a common heritage—“Jehovah is the make of them all”. From the richest, most powerful trillionaire to the poorest beggar living in utter squalor and abject poverty, every human has been made in God’s image.

It was the truth of equal accountability before God that has helped to ameliorate the cruel and inhumane practices of slaveholders. Paul wrote: “Masters, give your bondservants what is just and fair, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven” (Col. 4:1).

Each human shares equally three profound truths with all others: 1) a common Creator; 2) a common offer of salvation from sin through Christ; and 3) a common Judge from whom each one will receive “receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad” (2 Cor. 5:10).

These profound and significant similarities outweigh any and all of our superficial differences.
