A Contentious Woman

“Better to dwell in a corner of a housetop than in a house shared with a contentious woman…Better to dwell in the wilderness than with a contentious and angry woman” (Proverbs 21:9, 19).

Few living arrangements sound less enticing than living year-round in the uncovered corner of a flat roof or living in the wildest portion of a desolate wilderness. One can only imagine the spiders, birds, ticks, snakes, scorpions, and other four-legged predators who would like to come and make your intimate acquaintance.

Solomon knows of at least one domestic scenario which is worse than a man dwelling in the corner of a roof or making his domicile in the wilderness. It is trying to live in a house with a contentious, angry woman. Such a female is not a home and haven maker. She is a vicious and volatile mine field. The poison of her toxicity is powerful and generously shared with all who live under the same roof with her.

Choose wisely. He who finds a good wife finds a good thing (Prov. 18:22). She is not an angry or contentious woman.
