A Broken Spirit

“The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness, but who can bear a broken spirit?” (Proverbs 18:4).

The will to live is a powerful force in every person’s life. As demonstrated in the 1984 documentary The Silent Scream, even an unborn child as it is being savagely stalked in its mother’s womb by an abortionist strives mightily to flee and resist his murderer’s weapon(s) of death.

When a person is seriously ill, the possibility of recovery fuels the will to live. Many a cancer survivor has won an intense battle with his vicious foe simply because of his determination to live. He refused to lose.

A broken body can be repaired. A broken spirit cannot. Therefore, not long after a person’s will to live has been broken, his body will be without his spirit.
