“A faithful witness does not lie, but a false witness will utter lies” (Proverbs 14:5).
“A faithful witness does not lie” is a categorical truth. Just as it takes one theft to make you a thief and one illicit tryst to make you a fornicator, it takes one lie to make you a liar.
The reason why Jehovah and His word are absolutely and utterly trustworthy is because God cannot lie (Titus 1:2). The truth is: He cannot even be tempted to lie (James 1:13). If God could and did lie, He would be a liar; He would be untrustworthy, and His word—the Scriptures—would not be holy or of any useful value to anyone.
By definition, a false witness is a liar. He is hated and abominated by Jehovah (Prov. 6:19). He is a dangerous menace to society—like a club, sword, and sharp arrow (Prov. 25:18). Be assured, he will not go unpunished by the God of truth (Prov. 19:5, 9). He will perish (Prov. 19:9; 21:28), because all liars shall be eternally punished in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone (Rev. 21:8).
