“Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid” (Proverbs 12:1).
The best life you can live is the one in which you are ever growing in knowledge and wisdom. We are all born with an acute need to acquire both. Therefore, each of us determine how much knowledge and wisdom he has.
At birth we are ignorant. We do not know anything, not even our name. To decrease this pool of ignorance, learning must occur. The greater your love of knowledge, the greater your need for accurate instruction.
In like manner, when you have become a babe in Christ by the washing of regeneration, you have a distinct need to grow in knowledge (2 Pet. 1:5, 3:18). You must be a learner/disciple of Jesus (Mat. 11:29). Whoever loves instruction from God’s word loves knowledge.
At birth we are foolish (Prov. 22:15). We believe our limited knowledge of right and wrong—which is also poisoned by selfish actions and motives—is superior and ought to be authoritative. To decrease this spiritual cesspool of folly, correction must occur. The greater your love of wisdom, the greater your need for accurate and frequent correction. Because of His immense love for us, God corrects and chastens His children (Heb. 12:5-11).
Being corrected is no one’s idea of fun, but the wise embrace it and learn from it. Those who don’t are stupid, like a brute beast without any capacity for wisdom.
