“choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin” (Hebrews 11:25).
Make no mistake about it: There is pleasure in indulging the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. The allure and thrill of the “stolen water” of immorality (Proverbs 9:17) have conquered and ruined many.
Pleasure is the bait Satan puts on his hook of temptation. Its glittering appeal thrives on human shortsightedness and foolishly “living in the moment”.
The pleasures of sin, however, are momentary. Immoral, carnal actions can never satisfy the immortal soul. Yesterday’s pleasures quickly fade, creating intenser longings for today. The chains of sin’s addiction can quickly and quietly be locked into place while its pleasures slowly ebb away.
The wise man Moses was not fooled by the passing pleasures of sin.
How about you?
