Inheriting the Promises

And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, saying, ‘Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.’ And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise” (Hebrews 6:11-15).

When Jehovah makes a promise, He keeps His word. He promised Noah He would destroy the wicked (Genesis 6:13), and He did. He promised Noah and humanity He would never destroy the earth by water again (Genesis 9:11), and He has not. He promised Abraham He would make a great nation of him (Genesis 12:2) with many kings among his descendants (Genesis 17:6) and every nation of the earth would be blessed by one of his offspring (Genesis 22:18), and each promise has been kept.

God’s promises of an eternal inheritance (1 Peter 1:4), a crown of righteousness (2 Timothy 4:8), a crown of life (James 1:12), a crown of glory (1 Peter 5:4), and rest (Revelation 14:13) are a few of the many promises He has made to His children. His word is sure. These promises are immutable.

Yet, if you become spiritually lazy and fail to persevere in the race of faith, you will miss all of these promised blessings. The reason will NOT be because of God’s failure to keep His word. It WILL be because of your lack of diligence.

Inheriting God’s promises is entirely up to you. If you patiently endure like Abraham, you will receive every one of God’s promises.
