“…the express image of His person…” (Hebrews 1:3).
The Greek word charakter—translated “express image” in Hebrews 1:3—means an “exact representation”. In the 21st century we might refer to the idea of a photocopy.
When it comes to His spiritual DNA—His eternal character and divine nature—Jesus is exactly like His Father. He is the image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15).
Jesus’ miracles demonstrate His complete, divine sovereignty over nature, demons, life, and death. The purity of His life (1 Peter 2:22) mirrors the absolute holiness of His Father. So complete is Jesus’ reflection of His Father, He said to Philip, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father” (John 14:9).
This is another one of the many audacious claims of Jesus and the New Testament writers.
It is either blasphemously false or gloriously true.
