“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth)” (Ephesians 5:8-9).
In our physical world, sunlight produces certain results—plants thrive, the human body produces vitamin D, photosynthesis occurs. In the spiritual world, the light Christ gives produces certain fruit—goodness, righteousness, and truth.
Goodness is moral uprightness which blesses others with unselfish generosity.
Righteousness is moral uprightness in one’s personal character and conduct which arises from a deep and vigorous reverence for and faith in God.
Truth/Sincerity is genuine honesty which accurately corresponds to the character of the God who cannot lie (Titus 1:2).
Like algae which grows in the absence of light, the works of the flesh are not caused by walking as a child of light. Goodness, righteousness, and truth is the fruit of the light given by Christ.
Are you walking as a child of light?
