Be Fit

Physical fitness is big business in today’s world. Sadly, spiritual fitness does not appear to be nearly as important or popular. Ephesians 5:3-4 explains why being fit spiritually speaking ought to be of eminent importance to all.

“But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints” (Ephesians 5:3). God has certain standards for His holy one/saints. Just as high heels and a pristine wedding dress are not suitable attire for a woman working in a hog pen, so not even one instance of fornication, uncleanness, and covetousness is proper for the sanctified and cleansed bride of Christ. Such moral and spiritual filthiness has absolutely no place among God’s holy family.

“neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks” (Ephesians 5:4). A corrupt and filthy mouth does not measure up to the standard of godliness required of God’s holy ones. A tongue of thanksgiving does, because the will of God in Christ Jesus for you is to give thanks in everything (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

If you believe that God has no holy standards you must measure up to when it comes to spiritual fitness, you are being deceived by empty words. There is no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God for any fornicator, unclean person, or covetous man (Ephesians 5:5). For these spiritually unfit people—these sons of disobedience—the wrath of God shall come upon them (Ephesians 5:6).
