The Unique Purpose of the Church

“to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen” (Ephesians 3:21).

Since the church is the bride of Christ (Ephesians 5:22-32), it should not surprise anyone that those who disdain Christ will also denigrate His bride, the church. What is quite surprising are those denominationalists and premillennialists who loudly profess love for Christ and yet have utter disdain for His church as it is revealed in the New Testament.

Denominationalists denigrate Christ’s beloved bride by portraying Him as an impotent head and a spiritual polygamist. According to them, Jesus and His written word have little, if any, authority in spiritual and religious matters. Teaching and practicing contradictory doctrines is treated as insignificant and brushed off with a simple wave of the hand. In addition, they also teach Jesus to be the head and husband of many wives/churches. This makes Christ a spiritual polygamist. What horrific and disgusting blasphemy!

Premillennialists take such contempt for Christ’s bride a giant and hideous step further. They assert that the church—the body which Jesus (Matthew 1:21) is Savior—was never part of the eternally purposed plan of salvation. According to them, the spiritual kingdom of heaven (Matthew 16:18-19) was never promised or prophesied in the Old Testament. It was something completely unforeseen by the omniscient God who knows the end of a matter from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10; 48:3). What horrific and disgusting blasphemy!

God Himself states that the unique purpose of the church is to glorify Him by Jesus Christ to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. At the very latest, “to all generations” began in the first century A. D. and will continue until the final day of human history. “Forever and ever” is that unlimited timelessness which follows the end of time.

The church’s unique purpose is to glorify God for the rest of human history on this earth and through all eternity once time has ended.

Beware of those who spew horrific and disgusting blasphemy against Christ’s beloved bride.
