Rich in Mercy and Great in Love

No earthly anthem of God’s praise can adequately express His worthiness. What mortal mind can sufficiently inventory the riches of God’s mercy? Who can fully comprehend the width, length, depth, and height of His great love with which He loved us?

The starting point for pursuing a better understanding and appreciation of God’s rich mercy and great love is a rudimentary knowledge of sin’s gruesome truths—it is deadly; it is disobedience; it is doomed (see yesterday’s post). Without an elementary understanding of how deep the bottomless abyss called sin is, it is impossible to appreciate the spiritual rescue we receive through the gospel.

In Christ the dead are made alive; in Christ the disobedient are raised up; in Christ the doomed are made to sit together with Him in the heavenly places (Ephesians 2:5-6).

We are saved by the amazing grace of God so “that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:7).

“Blessing and honor and glory and power be to Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!” (Revelation 5:13).
