Why I Believe in Creation

By faith, the evolutionist believes that there was a Big Bang which created something out of nothing and from this all plant, animal, and human life evolved.  By faith, the theistic evolutionist believes that God made something out of nothing and from this all plant, animal, and human life evolved.  By faith, one who takes the Bible at face value believes “that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.”

I believe in the Creation account of Genesis exactly as it is written.  I believe that in six 24-hour periods the God of the Bible made the heavens, the earth, and all that they contain.  Because I have not always held this conviction, I have great empathy for those who doubt or struggle with it.  The following reasons helped me in reaching my present conviction.

First, when everything began, none of us were there, except God.  Therefore, He alone would know what happened.  The first chapter of Genesis is a record of just that.  In its 31 verses, the word God appears 31 times.  On days 1 to 6 we are told that “God created…God said…God saw…God divided…God called…God made…God set…God blessed.”  On the final day of this week, “God rested.”  There is no way anyone can read this chapter and then honestly conclude that our universe created itself or that God made a thing or two and then evolution occurred for the next several billion years.

Second, the God of the Bible is neither a liar nor a hypocrite.  To read the first chapter of Genesis and then contend that what happened was vastly different is to imply that God did not represent the facts accurately.  In other words, God lied. The Bible clearly teaches that God cannot lie nor can He even be tempted to do so.

In addition, believing that God lied on the very first page of the Bible clearly makes Him a hypocrite when we read the numerous occasions in the rest of the Bible in which He condemns lying.  How hypocritical of God to expect His followers to be truthful in all things when He Himself is not!

Third, since the beginning of human history, Satan has always sought to cause humans to doubt the accuracy of God’s word.  That’s what happened in the Garden of Eden.  Because Eve believed God had not told her the truth, death now awaits every human being.  Every cemetery is a silent but enduring reminder that God’s word is accurate.  So, regardless of whether it is a professor, philosopher, minister, scientist, or candlestick maker who contradicts or denies the clear teaching of God’s word, he is not stating the truth, because “the testimony of the Lord is sure.”

Last of all, either the Bible is accurate and truthful in all its contents or it is worthless and worse than useless.  Being “semi-trustworthy” is like being halfway pregnant: it’s impossible.  If God and His word are trustworthy, then they must be truthful from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21.  The principle of “Let God be true and every man a liar” is taught in Scripture, and it is either accurate or it is not.

According to First Timothy 2:4, the God of heaven has two intense desires for every human being: “to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”  For this to be true, the Bible must be free from error and accurate in every way.

     It is.
