First Things First

From the time of His bar-mitzvah (when He became a son of the Law) onward, every snapshot of Jesus’ perfect life shows Him focused on putting first things first.

His earliest recorded words–at age 12 (Luke 2:42)–clearly reveal His pre-eminent concern with His Father’s business (Luke 2:49). The next recorded event in His life–around the age of 30 (Luke 3:23)–occurred at the Jordan River where He insisted John immerse Him so to fulfill all righteousness (Matthew 3:15).

Day in, day out. Week in, week out. Month in, month out. Jesus ever sought first the kingdom of God and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33). He put first things first.

“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” is not pie in the sky psychobabble. It is the daily bread essential to obedient sonship for every child of God.
