Three Immutable Truths about Sexual Attraction

Heterosexual attraction is Biblical. Homosexual attraction is not; it is vile and unnatural (Romans 1:26-27).

From the Garden of Eden when God made humanity male and female, there have been three immutable (i.e. unchanging and unchangeable) truths about sexual attraction between Adam’s sons and Eve’s daughters. These are:

  • Sexual attraction is innate and God-given. In recording the creation of Eve, Genesis 2:22 states that “the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman.” Literally translated, the verb “made” means “built”. It implies a careful and precise craftsmanship. It is natural and intentional for males and females to be attracted to each other.
  • Sexual attraction is purposeful. The expression of sexual love has been placed by the hand of God in the marriage bed (Hebrews 13:4). When God’s purpose for exclusive, monogamous marital love is practiced, it provides a powerful adhesive between a husband and wife. It also provides the optimal setting for the bearing and nurturing of children.
  • Sexual attraction is powerful. The Song of Solomon is a paean of praise to monogamy. “You have ravished my heart…How fair is your love…my spouse! How much better than wine is your love…How fair and how pleasant you are, O love, with your delights!” (Song of Solomon 4:9-10, 7:6). What a contrast these words of Solomon are to the counsel he gives in Proverbs 5, 6, and 7 in which he somberly warns his beloved son of succumbing to the power of sexual attraction via fornication.

Sexual attraction has the power to bless your life immeasurably or curse your life unmercifully.

           It’s your call.
