After enumerating wisdom’s unique characteristics (Proverbs 8:1-11), a brief course description for its pupils (Proverbs 8:12-14), a prospectus for its investors (Proverbs 8:15-21), and a portfolio of its credentials (Proverbs 8:22-31), wisdom offers this welcome and warning: “Now therefore, listen to me, my children, for blessed are those who keep my ways. Hear instruction and be wise and do not disdain it. Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord; but he who sins against me wrongs his own soul; all those who hate me love death” (Proverbs 8:32-36).
What a wondrous welcome—Listen and be blessed; find me and find life plus divine favor.
What a somber warning—Violate me and hurt yourself; hate me and love death.
Wisdom will bless those who love her and will curse those who ignore her.
