The Rewards of Marriage

As created by God, marriage is intended to be a rich and wonderful blessing to humanity.  As enunciated by Solomon in Proverbs 5:15-17, marriage requires diligent labor, focused attention, and exclusivity.  When these essentials are generously supplied by a married couple, Solomon promises the following rewards: “Let your fountain be blessed and rejoice with the wife of your youth.  As a loving deer and a graceful doe, let her breasts satisfy you at all times; and always be enraptured with her love.  For why should you, my son, be enraptured by an immoral woman and be embraced in the arms of a seductress?” (Proverbs 5:18-20).

The rewards of a marriage that follows God’s divine blueprint are:

  • Abundant joy (v. 18). The innate differences between a man and a woman combine to bless you emotionally.  A husband’s need for companionship and respect are met.  A wife’s need for attention and protection are satisfied.  And, any children born into their home enjoy the rich blessings of stability, security, and love.  Happy children come from happy homes.
  • Intoxicating pleasure (v. 19). Sexual pleasure was not invented by humanity; it was created by Jehovah.  It is a most wonderful blessing of God when a husband and wife have kept their marriage bed undefiled.  The joy of monogamy cannot be overestimated.

Why eliminate the possibility of abundant joy and the intoxicating pleasure of marital love by seeking the polluting companionship of a fornicator?
