The Truth about Tomorrow

“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth” (Proverbs 27:1).

One of the glaring differences between Jehovah and the human race created in His image is that He knows the end of a matter from the beginning (Is. 46:10). The Self-existing (i.e. “I am that I am”) One lives in a dimension in which the past and the future are as visible to Him as the present. The future is no more of a mystery to Him than His omniscient knowledge of every detail of history.

Humans, however, have no certain knowledge about tomorrow, next week, next month, or next year. We literally do not know what a day may bring forth.

In light of this fact about human limitations, boasting about tomorrow or presumptuously planning that “today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit” (James 4:14) is the height of folly. What is your life? Who do you think you are?

Without arrogantly assuming the vapor of your life will ever continue to exist on planet Earth, your plans ought always to be: “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that” (James 4:15).

All boasting in your arrogance is evil (James 4:16). Don’t sin like this.

You literally do not know what a day may bring forth.
