“Whoever falsely boasts of giving is like clouds and wind without rain” (Proverbs 25:14).
In a land where rainfall can become quite sparse and infrequent, clouds which offer the promise of needed water but do not deliver any rain are pretentious in the cruelest of ways. They are like those who overrepresent their generosity.
Pretension is anathema to God and man. Jesus Himself cursed a pretentious fig tree (Mark 11:12-14, 20) and then a pretentious nation (Mark 13:2-31). Ananias and Sapphira’s overrepresentation (i.e., a lie to God) of the size of their gift which was laid at the apostles’ feet resulted in their immediate deaths (Acts 5:1-10).
Pretension in any part of your life is sin. Don’t live your life like a cloud without rain.
