“Do not lie in wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; do not plunder his resting place, for a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again, but the wicked shall fall by calamity” (Proverbs 24:15-16).
The utter futility of wickedness permeates the Holy Scriptures. The ultimate example of “fighting a losing battle” is the war the wicked wage against the righteous.
The wicked Jewish rulers got Jesus condemned and crucified, but the borrowed tomb could not contain Him for even a weekend. Righteousness will always triumph over the incessant attempts of the wicked to eradicate it.
And, like Haman, the very gallows the wicked build for the righteous will be the locale of their calamity.
Why do things always end up this way? Because God renders to each man—righteous and wicked—according to his deeds (Prov. 24:11).
