“The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes” (Proverbs 21:1).
God’s sovereignty and providence in our world is like a potter at the wheel with a piece of clay (Jer. 18:1-10). The slightest pressure or movement of the potter’s hand—often imperceptible to an onlooker—will have a distinct impact on the clay.
The Bible declares several critical facts about God’s rule over the kings and kingdoms of this world:
- Nations and their leaders rise and fall under His government (Dan. 2:32-45).
- At no time has or will a head of state be outside Jehovah’s sovereignty. The Son of God is the King of kings and Lord of lords, the only Potentate (1 Tim. 6:15). Jesus will remain in his exalted position until He has totally defeated every foe of heaven and delivered His kingdom to God the Father (1 Cor. 15:24-26).
- Jehovah moves in mysterious ways to accomplish His purposes (Prov. 21:1).
