A Path to Certain Destruction

“A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; he rages against all wise judgment” (Proverbs 18:1).

When seeking to defy God and rebel against His will, there is no safety in numbers (Ps. 2:1-7). When seeking to protect yourself against earthly enemies who could attack and plunder you, there is safety in numbers. Therefore, when a man wants to do his own thing and isolate himself from the safety of a city or community, he rages against all sound judgment.

This earthly reality is also spiritually true. One important way God seeks to protect those He has redeemed in Christ is by adding each one of these individuals to the church (Acts 2:47). He entrusts His sheep to the Good Shepherd and places them within one flock (John 10:1-16). This is what’s best.

When a Christian gets focused on all the faults and shortcomings (real and imagined) of the other members of God’s flock and dislikes how God has ordained the work, worship, and/or organization of the church, and then decides that he will be better off spiritually by serving God on his own, he rages against all wise judgment. This folly is the path which leads to certain, eternal destruction.
