“Let a man meet a bear robbed of her cubs, rather than a fool in his folly” (Proverbs 17:12).
According to A.I., “Bears in Palestine, particularly the Syrian brown bear, is relatively smaller compared to other bear species. This brown bear typically weighs around 500 pounds and can reach lengths of up to 4.5 feet from nose to tail.” Wikipedia points out that a momma bear is “highly protective” of her litter of cubs which usually ranges between one and three.
You do not need a very good imagination to envision the swift and vicious damage a Momma bear would inflict upon anyone she perceives to be a threat to one of her cubs. What sane person would choose to provoke such a lethal attack?
According to this inspired proverb, there is something even worse than a Momma bear attack! It is the swift and vicious influence of a fool behaving foolishly.
A wise person “walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful” (Ps. 1:1), for the exact same reason he does not come between a Momma bear and her cubs.
