“A wise son makes a father glad, but a foolish man despises his mother” (Proverbs 15:20).
When our children were young, our family spent a winter’s afternoon with an older couple at their lake cottage. In the course of our stay, the wise man of the house said, “When children are young, they step on your toes. When they get older, they step on your heart.” In the decades since that day, his memorable words have been proven true repeatedly.
Only a parent knows the exhilarating joy of having a grown child who has chosen to live a life of wisdom and righteousness. Only a parent knows the intense agony of a broken heart when an adult child chooses to walk in the path of folly.
Jesus lived in such a way that His heavenly Father twice declared “This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well-pleased” (Mat. 3:17; 17:5). How glad He made His Father’s heart! You and I can do likewise.
Only a foolish person disregards and despises the love and concern of his father, mother, and heavenly Father. Don’t be foolish.
