“A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit” (Proverbs 15:4).
Because your tongue has the power of death and life (Prov. 18:21), how you use it is immeasurably important.
Your words can be wholesome, healing hearts and souls which have been wounded and scarred. Your tongue can nourish and invigorate like a life-giving tree. Your words can strengthen the hands which hand down and the feeble knees (Heb. 12:12). A tree-of-life tongue will warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, and uphold the weak (1 Thes. 5:14). Immense good can be accomplished by your powerful tongue.
An unrighteous tongue like a locust plague which devastates everything in its path. It leaves no survivors, just spiritual destruction. The New Testament prophet James echoes this solemn fact. He writes: “the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity” (James 4:6).
Life and death. Healing and devastation. The impact you choose for your tongue is immeasurably important.
Choose well.
